44 people were positive for Covid-19 after attending the wedding of 500 guests in Uruguay. A newly-invited wedding guest from Spain is said to be the source of the virus spread.
An epic wedding ceremony in an upmarket neighborhood in Carrasco, Uruguay became the focus of attention after 44 guests were infected with Covid-19 after the party, according to the Guardian.
Germs are traced to a famous person in the capital, Montevideo. This person decided to attend the wedding of 500 guests on March 7 just hours after taking the plane from Spain.
Fashion designer Carmela Hontou, 57, defended her decision to attend the party. She said she had lunch with her 84-year-old mother and attended a “very crowded” lunch the next day.
When a reporter asked if Hontou thought she shouldn’t go to the crowd when she came back from Spain, Hontou replied, “That’s ridiculous! Do you know how many people are on that plane? ”.
In the same interview, Hontou revealed that during a previous trip to Madrid in January, she had a fever and called a doctor. “I couldn’t even talk, I had a fever of 41 degrees,” she told Argentine news site Infobae. “I asked the doctor about the corona virus but he didn’t pay attention.”
She also told Infobae that on her next trip on February 22, she wore a mask when boarding a plane in Madrid.
Hontou could face charges under article 224 of the Uruguayan criminal code for “spreading the disease”. State prosecutors are also investigating her sons. They are said to have visited Mrs. Hontou, in violation of the quarantine rules.
The number of confirmed Covid-19 virus infections in Uruguay jumped from 79 on March 12 to 392 on March 18.
