Brazil surpassed Italy in Covid-19 deaths

Brazil on June 4 witnessed the highest number of Covid-19 deaths per day and surpassed Italy in terms of total deaths.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, the country has confirmed more than 600,000 cases and 1,437 deaths from Covid-19 on June 4. With a total of 34,000 deaths, Brazil has officially overtaken Italy in Covid-19 deaths and is currently second only to the US and UK in this index.

Protests against government outbreaks of outbreaks in Brazil. President Bolsonaro on June 5 called anti-government protesters terrorists and encouraged police forces to act quickly to prevent the possibility of protest activities beyond the legal limit.

National defense representatives and capital officials in Braslia held a meeting on June 5 to discuss countermeasures against the possibility of protests continuing over the weekend. It is not clear whether federal forces will be deployed in the Brazilian capital region.
