China has just approved an early human clinical trial for two Covid-19 vaccines, bringing the number of vaccines being tested in the country to three.

Two new vaccines were produced by Beijing-based Sinovac Biotech unit and Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, a branch of China National Pharmaceutical Group, Xinhua reported.

In March, China also allowed initial testing of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese Military Science Academy and Tianjin-based CanSino Bio Biotechnology Company.

This is a recombinant vaccine led by the team led by Major General Chen Wei, the leading epidemiologist and virologist of the Military Academy of Military Sciences (AMMS). As such, China is testing three types of Covid-19 vaccine.

Earlier, the United States was the first country in the world to test Covid-19 in humans. The American Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Massachusetts-based Moderna Biotechnology Company recruited 45 volunteers from 18-55 years old to test vaccines prepared based on copying the genetic code of corona virus .

Many countries around the world are racing to develop the Covid-19 vaccine, but only the US and China have conducted clinical trials on humans. Scientists estimate that it takes 12-18 months to successfully prepare a vaccine to prevent the disease that has killed more than 100,000 people worldwide.
