The SARS-CoV-2 virus test kit developed by UK researchers can give results within 30 minutes.
According to Tomsguide, scientists at Brunel University London, Lancaster University, and Surrey University (UK) are cooperating to develop devices that use cotton swabs to take nose or throat fluids to detect corona virus.
The home-tested Covid-19 kit uses a battery-powered handheld device that costs around $ 120 and a personal cotton swab for $ 5. This device is based on Philippine technology used to test viruses in poultry.
This device can test for 6 people at the same time and will return results via the application installed on the phone in 30 minutes. As a result, people do not need to send samples to the lab.
However, the team has not said whether the test kit has passed the regulatory agency tests. In the UK, the device must be approved for use by the Medicines and Health Products Administration (MHRA). In the United States, this is the responsibility of the Food and Drug Administration.
“Normally, such a device must go through clinical trials. But this is no ordinary situation. With the help of local hospitals, we plan to experiment with samples that are positive and negative in the near future, ”said Professor Wamadeva Balachandran (Brunel University London).
