Research shows that the combination of antibiotics and malaria drugs has positive results but requires more testing and people should not arbitrarily treat.
According to Novinite, French scientists have just announced the results of clinical trials of a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to combat the new SARS-Cov 2 virus. Their study was published in the International Magazine of Antimicrobial Agents.
To date, no specific treatment has been approved to cure Covid-19. Hundreds of clinical trials around the world are trying to prove the effect of drugs on the market with SARS-Cov 2 virus.
Studies were conducted around two drug groups, remdesivir, an intravenous drug with antiviral activity. The second group is antimalarial drugs including chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.
In the lab, all three of these drugs can fight new corona viruses. In particular, chloroquine is used as the main drug against the virus that causes Covid-19, which is recommended by China. However, clinical trials are still needed.
Therefore, French scientists conducted clinical trials and compared the results of the method using hydroxychloroquine only and combined with azithromycin antibiotic to treat Covid-19. The experiment took place at the Institute of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, University of Marseille, France.
The study was conducted on 30 adult patients who had and had no symptoms of Covid-19 but were tested positive for SARS-Cov. There were 16 people who disagreed with testing for new drugs. group. This group is treated with antibiotics to prevent bacterial superinfection.
The remaining 14 patients were given 200 milligrams of hydroxychloroquine sulfate 3 times daily for 10 days. In addition to hydroxychloroquine, after them supplemented with 500 milligrams of azithromycin / day for the first 2 days. Subsequently, azithromycin was reduced to 250 milligrams / day for the next 4 days.
As a result, 6 patients taking hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combination showed very good results. On the 5th day of treatment, all 6 patients were tested negative. Several days later, the test results of these 6 people were also negative.
Patients who took hydroxychloroquine alone did not recover. On day 8, one patient started taking azithromycin combination. By day 9, this person’s test results were negative for Covid-19.
The scientists note that this is a very small test but its results are encouraging. However, it should be noted that these drugs are prescription drugs used only when indicated, monitored and instructed by physicians for the prevention or treatment of acute malaria, removal of intestinal amoeba, treatment of multiple inflammatory conditions. rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, allergic reaction to light (photosensitive skin).
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has warned people to buy chloroquin / hydroxychloroquin containing the active ingredient chloroquin for treatment and prevent Covid-19, which could be life-threatening because the drug has some serious side effects.
