Japan and Russia are recording a spike in Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Dozens of deaths have been confirmed.

Tokyo on April 2 confirmed 90 more cases of corona virus – the highest number of cases per day since the outbreak, according to Kyodo News.

To date, Japan has a total of 3,202 cases, 78 deaths from Covid-19.

In Russia, meanwhile, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 has increased to 30. More than 3,548 people have been infected in 76 regions of the country.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on April 2 said the new cases had not reached the level of “declaring an emergency”, but the country should still be alert to the outbreak.

Mr Abe is considering canceling his trip to Moscow in May amid a global pandemic of the corona virus.

Torch relay program for the Tokyo Olympic Games has been postponed. After the meeting between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizers, the Olympics will be scheduled from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Meanwhile, Russia recorded 771 more cases in the past 24 hours, including 595 in Moscow. This city has 3 more deaths from viruses.

“In Russia, today there are 3,548 cases of corona virus infection in 76 regions. In total, 235 people recovered from their illnesses and were discharged from the hospital. In the past 24 hours, 6 more people have died, ”according to TASS.

According to The Moscow Times, the official Russian figures are still much lower than those of European countries. Experts warn Russia’s testing capabilities are hampered. Meanwhile, many officials warn the actual figure could be much higher.

Last week, Moscow changed the way it counts Covid-19. Accordingly, a person is considered to be positive for the virus when testing for a positive result only once instead of having to send the sample to the Novosibirsk laboratory for further verification.

Starting at the beginning of the week (March 30), all 12 million residents of Moscow were ordered to stay home with only a few exceptions. Globally, the corona virus has infected more than 900,000 people and killed more than 47,000.
