About a third of nearly 2,000 sailors aboard the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and two escorts were positive for Covid-19, the French defense minister said on April 16.

No cases were found on the remaining escort.

To date, 1,767 sailors from the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier combat group have been tested for corona virus, about 30% of sailors are still awaiting results but more than half of the tests have been performed positive. .

The Charles de Gaulle, capable of carrying 2,000 sailors, was deployed in the Atlantic as part of a NATO exercise after participating in Operation Chammal to halt Islamic State operations in Iraq. and Syria.

The French Defense Ministry said all combat ship groups were being disinfected.
