Bloomberg reported that Sophie Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, tested positive for the new strain of Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2).

In a statement released on the evening of March 12, the Prime Minister’s office said: “Following the medical recommendations, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau was tested on Covid-19 today. The result was positive.” .

“She feels fine, and is taking all the recommended precautions. Her symptoms are still mild,” the notice added.

Earlier yesterday, Prime Minister Trudeau said he and his wife would quarantine and work from home, after Mrs. Trudeau developed a cough. She had just returned from a trip to England.

His office said the prime minister was “in good health and not showing symptoms”.

“To take preventive measures on the advice of the doctors, the prime minister will quarantine for an estimated 14 days,” Trudeau’s office announced.

In addition, on the advice of doctors, Mr. Trudeau will not be tested immediately because he does not appear symptoms. For the same reason, doctors think there is no risk to those who have come into contact with him recently, according to CBC.

As of March 12, 150 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Canada, with one death recorded as an elderly man in British Columbia province.
