The Moscow City Health Department doubled the number of Covid-19 deaths in April, including people whose autopsies showed they may have been infected by the virus.
On May 28, the Moscow Health Department reported that out of 1,753 people who died from other causes in April, 636 died from the corona virus.
Moscow counted an additional 756 corona virus-infected patients who died of other illnesses. In addition, 169 people were not confirmed to have had coronavirus infection, but autopsy revealed coronavirus could be the cause. These people are also added.
In total, Russia’s capital added 925 more deaths because of Covid-19 in April, bringing the total to 1,561, more than double the previous figure.
“We are processing those numbers and finding out all the causes of them,” the Moscow Health Department said, according to the Moscow Times.
Moscow revised the data after it raised questions about a very low death rate in Russia, although the rate of infection in this country is the strongest in Europe. Western media reported that the actual number of Covid-19 deaths in Russia could be 70% higher.
Russia recorded a record high number of deaths for Covid-19 over the past 24 hours with 232 deaths, bringing the total to 8,264 (after amendment). 387,623 people were infected with corona virus, the 3rd highest in the world. Moscow with 12.7 million people accounts for more than a quarter of Russia’s deaths with 4,374 cases.
The Moscow Health Department also said that the number of deaths from corona virus will spike in May, after 2-3 weeks after the epidemic peak.
