Russia recorded 9,623 new infections on May 2, marking the highest number of new infections in a day in the country, bringing the total to 124,054.
The number of deaths reported by Covid-19 in the country is 1,222 after an additional 57 deaths were confirmed in the past 24 hours, Russia’s corona virus crisis response center said.
On April 30, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said he was positive for the virus, and would quarantine himself. He is the highest certified Russian official to be infected.
“I just knew my test result was positive, so I had to follow the self-isolation rule to ensure the safety of my associates,” Russia 24 television channel quoted Mr. Mishustin.
A day later, Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities Vladimir Yakushev and Deputy Minister Dmitry Volko also confirmed positive for Covid-19, Tass news agency said.
At another notable Covid-19 hot spot is Singapore, the largest epidemic zone in Southeast Asia, adding 447 new cases were recorded on May 2, bringing the total number of people infected nationwide to over 17,500, of which 16 died. .
The number of new infections on this day has more than halved compared to 932 cases a day earlier and marks the ninth consecutive day of new infections rising below 1,000.
Singapore now records 1,268 people who have recovered.
To date, Covid-19 has appeared in 210 countries and territories with more than 3.4 million people infected, nearly 234,000 deaths and more than one million people recover.
Southeast Asia is one of the hot spots of the pandemic, with the number of infections exceeding 46,000.
