Countries are racing to find solutions to help eradicate corona virus, with at least two independent research groups claiming they have succeeded.
According to BGR, at least two independent research groups claim to have identified antibodies capable of destroying corona virus. More specifically, these types of chemical compounds can develop into drugs and deliver to patients in the near future.
In laboratory conditions, many researchers from the Netherlands, Israel and Japan have synthesized strong antibodies that can neutralize corona virus.
The next step is to conduct clinical experiments on the human body. If effective and safe, the antibodies will soon be mass produced and become the standard treatment for Covid-19 disease.
Specifically, the team at Utrecht University in the Netherlands provided information on a monoclonal antibody called 47D11.
Experiments show that 47D11 has the ability to destroy mutant protein spikes of SARS-Cov-2 virus. Without mutant protein spikes, the corona virus cannot multiply and is soon killed.
The interesting thing about 47D11 is that this antibody not only neutralized the SARS-CoV-2 virus but also the SARS-CoV-1 virus, which caused the SARS pandemic in the early 2000s.
“A neutralizing antibody will be able to kill the virus, alter the infection process in the host or protect an individual from virus infection when accidentally exposed,” Berend-Jan Bosch, graduate student at Utrecht speaking to The Guardian.
According to The Guardian, the Israeli Institute of Biological Research (IIBR) also claims to have created antibodies that kill corona viruses. Not stopping at the stage of drug invention, scientists are also looking for ways to mass produce antibodies on.
In an effort to quickly reverse the Covid-19 epidemic, IIBR believes that the trial process could be shortened to several months. So far, Israel’s antibodies have not been named.
In Japan, an antibody called VHH has been confirmed to neutralize corona virus. VHH is the result of researchers from Kitasato University, Kao company and Epsilon biotechnology startup.
VHH antibodies come from camels, which are only one tenth the size of regular antibodies and have a lower production cost. Kao company representatives said they used microorganisms to create antibodies.
The researchers suggest that the new antibodies could stop the infection of the corona virus. However, it is unclear how long it will take for these drugs to bypass regulatory barriers and begin mass production.
South Korea plans to produce drugs to treat corona virus as early as 2021. In the US, at least 5 independent organizations are developing similar drugs, which are expected to be introduced this summer.
