Throat like knife, cough, fever raging … is what the 60-year-old female doctor has endured in 1 week of fighting Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Covid-19 cases in the UK are increasing rapidly, prompting the government to take drastic steps in combating the spread of the new strain of corona virus.
Dr. Clare Gerada, 60, a family doctor in Lambeth, South London and former president of the Royal GP College tested positive for corona virus last week. She recently described in detail what experienced during Covid-19 infection, and the feeling when the virus developed in the body.
Dr. Clare Gerada said: “At first, I thought this was just a cold due to traveling too much. 3 days ago I flew back from New York, where I was attending a psychiatric conference there “.
When Clare Gerada had just left, New York declared a state of emergency for the Covid-19 epidemic. 2 days later, the female doctor started to show symptoms of fatigue, dry cough. At first, cough symptoms were few, so Clare Gerada was subjective, not thinking she was infected.
But the very next day, her throat began to ache terribly, the pain described by the female doctor as a “scalpel”.
“I thought I was infected with the corona virus, my throat hurt like a knife and my temperature quickly increased. I know it’s coronavirus, because I usually never get sick and the flu season is over, ”Clare said.
These symptoms are more pronounced and progress faster than the common cold. Within a few hours of having the first symptoms, Clare Gerada lost her appetite, and in her bitter mouth made eating uncomfortable.
“I fell down on the bed and slept well because of the high fever, but I forced myself to drink lots of water and lemonade. I couldn’t drink tea because my mouth and throat hurt.
Within hours, my nose was full of ulcers and I imagined the back of my mouth as well. All I want to do is sleep – I have considered video logging, but even the thought of holding a phone seems to be extremely laborious. ”
On March 13, the hospital announced that Clare Gerada’s test result was positive for corona virus and needed to be isolated at home.
During the isolation process, Clare Gerada took paracetamol every 8 hours. Her husband, Simon, always takes care of his wife and the two keep a safe distance from each other. For days afterward, all Clara could do was sleep.
“He slept in the spare room, I put all the china in the dishwasher and we didn’t share towels. So far he is not sick, even though he was with me in the house. A neighbor who helped take care of pets in the house, ”Clara revealed.
Knowing she had Covid-19, Clare Gerada was frightened, but compared to the common cold symptoms, the corona virus was the worst she had ever experienced.
After a few days of taking medicine and resting, Clare Gerada’s health gradually stabilized. Headaches are gone, body temperature is reduced, … the mouth begins to feel and can eat again.
She started from easy-to-digest foods like chicken soup, stews, etc. to enhance the resistance. When her body returned to strength, she stayed at home for extra isolation and tested herself to be completely victorious over Covid-19.
“My 60-year-old body fought to protect against a new virus. I hope the experiences I share will make people less afraid of the disease and can help patients quickly detect the disease and treat it promptly, ”Clara said.
