The number of new deaths continues to decline in the US and Europe

More states in the US removed the blockade amid economists’ estimated jobless rate of 16% for April.

The total number of corona virus infections worldwide has reached the 3 million mark (2,991,073 according to Worldometers, as of early April 27), of which the number of recoveries is nearly 900,000. The number of deaths, exceeding 200,000 on April 26, has now increased to nearly 207,000.

But these figures may only reflect a portion of people actually infected, as many countries are only testing the worst cases, according to AFP.

The US had the highest number of infections, with 963,379 cases, according to John Hopkins University as of early morning April 27, with 54,810 deaths.

In New York state, the number of new deaths on April 26 was 367, down from 437 the day before. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said some areas in the state could qualify to reopen “with some discretion”, such as the northern part of the state.

Europe has a total of 124,091 deaths out of 1,368,407 infections, according to AFP statistics as of midnight on April 26, surpassing other regions such as North America (1 million), South-Central America ( 162,000), Asia (200,000), the Middle East (155,000) and Africa (more than 31,000).

In Italy, the country ranked second in terms of deaths, there were 260 new deaths on April 26, 260, the lowest since March 14, and 155 fewer than April 25. The total number of deaths in Italy has increased to 64,928, with a total of 197,675 cases.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in France increased by 242 on April 26, compared with 369 in the previous day, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 22,856. Prime Minister Édouard Philippe said he would present a plan to lift the blockade on February 28 to the National Assembly, so that Congress can debate and vote.

Spain on April 26 recorded 288 deaths, also the lowest in more than a month. The number of victims of Covid-19 in the country increased to 22,902. The number of infections in Spain increased to 207,634, compared to 205,905 the previous day.

In the UK, the number of deaths from Covid-19 increased by 413 on April 26, to a total of 20,732, while the number of infections increased by 4,463, bringing the total to 152,840.

Health officials of the British hospital system NHS said the country was “definitely on a downward trend in the number of Covid-19 cases still in hospital.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson returned to No. 10 Downing Street on April 26, according to Sky News, after a week of hospitalization and two weeks of rest. He is expected to announce plans to ease the blockade this week, according to the Telegraph.
