Researchers will have free, remote access to two of IBM’s most powerful supercomputers: Summit, at Oak Ridge and Lassen National Labs, at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. .

Combined, the alliance’s 16 supercomputing systems are capable of calculating up to 265 petaflops, 775,000 CPUs and more than 34,000 GPUs, Mr. Gil said. They are manufactured by IBM and other companies.

“Supercomputers have thousands or tens of thousands of CPUs working together and working together to perform great calculations,” Gil said. “They are also particularly suitable for processing and analyzing large amounts of data using AI algorithms.”

Researchers at the US Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, together with the University of Tennessee, used Summit supercomputers to run simulations on over 8,000 compounds. As a result, they identified 77 types that could be used to accelerate the discovery of therapeutic drugs and the Covid-19 vaccine.
